Cathodic Protection

What is Cathodic Protection and Why Is It Needed?

To live a long and productive existence, underground propane tanks need protection. Cathodic protection can be used to protect underground steel propane tanks and piping from corrosion. The biggest risk to underground tanks is electrolysis, which occurs in the ground naturally and causes metal tanks to corrode over time. To protect a tank from electrolysis, an anode bag is attached by wire to the tank and placed in the hole with the tank before it is covered with backfill. This sacrificial anode bag alters the electrical currents in the earth that would have targeted the tank resulting in damage. Tevis Propane offers System Inspection Plans to ensure that your propane tank remains in good condition and meets government regulations. All tank services are performed by certified Tevis Propane technicians. Your safety, satisfaction and trust are our highest priorities!

Tank Replacement Information

To be eligible for tank for life and free anodes, initial tank inspection test must fall within approved testing parameters. Cost is based on length of plan enrollment: 1 Year (10%), 2 Years (25%), 3 Years (50%), 4 Years (75%), 5+ Years (100%). Tank replacement discounts require continuous enrollment in both Tevis Propane automatic delivery and the Total Propane System Analysis. Tevis Propane reserves the right to deny enrollment in Total Propane Plan for tanks with pre-existing conditions. Propane delivery from suppliers other than Tevis will result in cancellation of either plan. Yearly inspections, automatic renewal, benefits must be received in plan year.
